Komment by John Tattom
Era:1993 : Packaging : Poor
• Strange partial picture on from cover is the highlighthere. The track listing is minimal and contains several errors ("Death of a Clown", "You Really God Me"?). But the paper listing is miles ahead of the listings on the discs themselves -- every single song is listed wrong. Whoever handled the labeling either didn't speak much English or had never heard The Kinks. On the other hand, if you want a good laugh or want to use the material as a party game ("Who can guess what they meant by these titles: High and Low, Phono, The Week? OK, I'll give you a couple of easy ones: Celluloid Horse, Fashion Show..."), then get these discs right away.
Originality : Good
• This concert is on the Phobia tour in Japan. The show was in Tokyo (not that the disc tells you that) on 10/6/93.
Sound Quality : Very Good/Good
• This is an audience recording, and although the crowd is quiet, it is hard to hear some of the tracks. The sound is clear -- it's just faint. This perhaps should have been re-recorded at a higher volume. Some of the tracks sound pretty good, but it's a mixed bag at best.
Performance : Good/Fair
• The band seems lethargic to some extent. The songs are played fairly well, but since the vocals are prominent and even they are faint, everything somehow lacks energy. Ray talks some to the crowd, but no enjoyable banter ever gets going -- I suppose the audience is just too polite. Despite the date, there are only a few Phobia tracks in the show, for better or for worse.
Overall : Fair
• The sound isn't awful, the poor documentation isn't that critical, and the energy level may well be an accurate representation of the band at that time. So there's nothing really so wrong about this title, but there isn't anything so right about it, either. Probably only to be recommended to true collectors.

Notes : Disc 1 and disc 2 track 1-6 : Live at Nakano San Plaza, Tokyo, Japan 5/12/95. 7-14 : Shibuya Kokaido, Tokyo, Japan 10/14/93. I saw this show! Great live! Listen the "Celluloid Heroes", that's very impressive play. You can listen "standing ovation" by all Japanese audience after the "Celluloid Heroes"

Notes : The show is from "International House, Osaka, Japan 5/14/95".
Komment by John Tattom
Era: 1995 :Packaging : Good
• Two color photos (that is Ray, isn't it?) and nice multi-color text. The track information is accurate, but there's nothing extra. The discs themselves have color labels with the title printed on them.
Originality : Good
• This material is from their 1995 tour of Japan. The concert in question was 5/14/95 at the International House in Osaka.
Sound Quality : Very Good
• This is an audience recording, but the Japanese audience is quiet (for the most part) enough that the sound is pretty clear. The vocals dominate, but Dave's guitar kicks in fairly loudly on a few tracks.
Performance : Good
• Ray plays with the crowd a good bit, but everything seems somewhat staged. The audience is quiet, but appreciative of the show. Perhaps the band is meeting the enthusiasm level of the crowd -- everything seems reserved.
Overall : Good
• Although certainly not the most inspired concert, the tracks are performed adequately and there are some good tracks presented. Since the concert is not in direct support of an album, the song selection doesn't lean heavily on one of the later records. As a novelty item, both "It's Alright" songs are featured. I'm not sure the second disc needed to include that one guy clapping by himself for several minutes at the end.
